I offer a friendly and relaxed environment where I hope you can feel comfortable to sing with confidence. Generally, the lessons begin with my progressive and diagnostic training in voice production including; breathing technique, warm ups and conditioning exercises. A section of the lesson will be dedicated to working on harmony, ear training and practical theory, however If you are working towards a specific goal then the lessons will be structured accordingly. The main part of the lesson will be learning all aspects of performing and singing songs, especially your own choices! This will include improvisational skills, developing style and building your confidence. One of my specialities is vocal technique, helping you to access a greater practical and connected range, smoothing out breaks in the voice and to improve timbre, pitch and control.
Depending on the song we will either use a backing track or I can accompany on guitar/keys. I am happy for you to bring along an instrument to use, especially if you require help in accompanying yourself whilst singing, including guidance with your own compositions. Periodically I like to record students singing songs that we have worked on for tracking your progress and to aid in your development. As with any instrument, including your voice, practice is essential if you wish to improve and avoid injury. You get out what you put in! It’s advisable to make regular time for your practice and I can set homework based on songs and exercises covered in the lesson.
I offer basic skills in guitar, keys and percussion for vocalists in order to enhance musicality and song writing skills. We will also practice using a microphone during lessons. I offer training in Rock School Vocals if you wish to take your grades 1-8 and can also help with Music GCSE, Duke of Edinburgh award scheme or further Musical education support.
